The heart of the tree poem paraphrase - class 9 and 10

 

Introduction

The heart of the tree is a poem by Henry cular Bunnar. It starts by a question which is repeated at the beginning of each word that is " what does he plant whose plants a tree?" I am the answer to the question is given in the following lines. The poem appreciates trees not only for their aesthetic values but also for their important role in human life. The heart is the most important organ in human body and it is essential for human survival and so are trees. The hot hair signifies the most important quality of the tree.

Verse 1...

In the beginning of the stanza the poet asks a general question to the readers that is "What does he plant to plant a tree?" It is more than as a general activity of plantation. According to him trees are the friends of Sun and sky as one day the tree will grow tall and appeared to touch the sky and it is referred to as a friend of sun as it needs sunlight for its growth and nourishment. It is a friend of sky as it takes carbon dioxide from the air and releases fresh oxygen hence purifying it. also transpiration from the trees is responsible for cloud formation in the sky and thus brings rain. Then the tree is said to be a flag of soft ,cold winds. The leaves of the tree flutters to provide soothing, cold and gentle breeze to us just like a flag flutters freely in the breeze. The tree grows as tall as a tower and thus looks like a beam of beauty flashing from a tall beautiful tower. Since the trees are long it appears as if they had made a home which is closer to heaven. The man who plants a tree plants it for the mother bird singing a melodious song for her young ones with soft and gentle voice which is heard in a carm ,silent, happy faint light when the sun has gone down. The birds high pitched tone adds to the pleasant way in which different musical notes are sung together and combine to make a pleasant sound in the universe.

In the second stanza the same question is repeated which implies that the poet wants to point out some more benefits of planting a tree. The plant will soon grow tall and become a tree which will provide cool shade In gentle forest.It will be bear fruits and buds for future generation and even after many years when the tree will grow old then it will wither away but the seeds which fell on the ground will soon grow to a new tree and soon to a new forest. It means that with each passing year the trees will grow and one day they will die but will be replaced by new trees that is they will "flush again" in the entire forest. Thus one who plants a tree conserve his natural heritage that is forests. It is symbolic of three eternal processes of life that is birth death and regeneration. In this way the trees makes the places beautiful and the forest which is formed is inherited by the man who plants a tree which will provide crops and food for future generations. Thus the future generation who is yet to born will also keep all the benefits of the tree that is being planted now.

Verse 3...

The poet repeat the same question for the third time to create more interest in the minds of readers. But up till now he emphasized the importance of trees but in the final words he laid more emphasis on the man who plants a tree. The man plants the tree with faithfulness. He loves not only his family but also the whole universe and thus is concerned about them. He plants a tree for all the humans who will get food from plant's sap and leaves. Besides he will get wood which has a lot of commercial use. The poet has referred the man who plants a tree as God because he thinks about the future society and the consequences of the land without trees. By planting a tree he showers his blessing on the future generation. He is a man of far cast thoughts and is anxious about the well-being of the city and its citizens. And so he holds the future progress of mankind in his hand and could easily see that the growth of universe is possible only by planting trees.

The poet is anxious about the "unborn eyes" and thus for their survival, growth and development suggests a simple solution to plant trees.

The poem is highlighting the importance of trees which are the source of gentle breeze and they purify the air and form clouds, maintains Earth's water cycle ,gives flowers and fruits and their seeds which fall on the ground form dense forest which are boon to the future generation.

Plants are main source of medicines and Woods. Wood which is a very important trade product which helps in enriching country's economy is provided by trees without any cost. The poem also shows that trees are a blessing for the future generation. Without trees the world will become a deserted barren land and all the living beings would face hunger and thus it is the duty of every person to plant a tree for future survival. The general pattern followed in the poem is that of raising a question and immediately providing the answer to it. This technique is known as hypophora antipophora it is done to create and anxietyand curiosity in the readers to know more about the poem.
